Ryan Accepts Gavel to Become SMPS President
Today Paula Ryan, FSMPS, CPSM, Director of Marketing for Jezerinac Geers & Associates, Inc., takes the gavel as President of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), a 6,500 member association for marketers and business developers in the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry.
Paula has been a member of SMPS for more than 20 years while providing servant leadership at the local, regional and national level. Her volunteer experience with SMPS includes serving as Columbus Chapter President, Foundation president, and Fellows Delegate and At-large Delegate on the board of directors.
“We’re proud of Paula’s involvement and history with SMPS. It brings industry intelligence and a wide network to our firm that we wouldn’t ordinarily have,” said Daniel Geers, PE, president of Jezerinac Geers.
During Paula’s one-year term as president, SMPS will introduce its Body of Knowledge, a comprehensive resource library that will enhance the professional development of A/E/C marketers and business developers. Conversely, the development of an educational curriculum that guides technical professionals, or seller-doers, providing them with the skills to win more work for their firms will also be completed during her tenure.
“The approach to sales and marketing in our industry is constantly changing, particularly as technical professionals are becoming more responsible for adding to their firm’s bottom line,” Paula said.
“Providing professional development for our members at all levels of responsibility drives business success that validates the practice of marketing and business development as essential to all professional service firms. It’s an exciting time to be leading!”
Paula has over 25 years of experience in professional services marketing, including positions with national, regional and local architectural, engineering and construction firms. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the Ohio State University, is a certified professional services marketer and was named a Fellow of the Society in 2009.
SMPS has 58 chapters in 36 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada, including 3,700 design and building firms, encompassing 80% of the Engineering News–Record Top 500 Design Firms and Top 400 Contractors.
