Meet Corey Smith, Design Engineer
Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering, The Ohio State University
M.Eng., Structural Engineering, Lehigh University
What makes you tick?
Anything that challenges me.
How did you survive the 10-month, compressed schedule to get your M.Eng. in structural engineering?
Good friends and coffee!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I’d love to learn how to make everyone happy.
If money were no issue, where would you travel and why?
I would travel to every FIFA World Cup for the rest of my life because I could never get enough soccer.
Do you have a nickname and if so, how did you get it?
All my buddies in high school called me “Smithers” and I get the occasional “Smitty” from some other college friends. I’m not quite sure how I got them. I think my friends just thought “Smith” was too boring.
What TV show, APP or music are you obsessed with right now?
I’m really into Indietronia and Electronica music lately.
What three traits define you?
I think I’m a good mix of patience, competitiveness, and zaniness.
Are you a cat or a dog person, and why?
I would have to say I am a dog person because I am way more allergic to cats than I am to dogs. And dogs are cuter.
What’s your favorite movie line?
It would have to be a TV show quote from The Office: “I’m not superstitious, but I’m a little-stitious.” – Michael Scott
What inspires you?
From a structural engineering perspective, I draw inspiration from the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
What was your first job and how did it influence you?
I was a cashier at a public pool. It made me a better swimmer!
