Wheeling Island Casino and Hotel were constructed in 2003 at an approximate construction cost of $65 million. A two-story gaming room was added in 2007 to complete the 74,000 SF casino. The 150-room hotel was constructed using a unique "staggered truss system". Story-deep trusses clear span the width of the hotel. Truss spacing matches the suite partition locations, staggering on alternate lines from one floor to the next. Precast concrete planks span from the top chord of one truss to the bottom chord of the adjacent truss. This innovative system reduces floor-to-floor height, and eliminates interior columns for an open layout on the lower floors.
